Opening Night

Tonight is the night of the MFA show opening for my graduating class. I am truly proud and honored to be a part of this year's exhibit and share the company of nine other very unique, courageous young artists.

Taking a Break...

I have been taking a break, from writing as well as my WearIt Etsy store, in order to complete my thesis and get ready for my final MFA exhibit. March is when it all comes together, and after I graduate I will be free to go back to my store, and making things, and who knows what else... These days I miss my sewing machine...
Until I am really back, I hope everyone outthere has a beautiful winter, or summer, where ever you are...

My Mom the Minimalist

I've got this yummy wool vest from my mom recently, and the spicy socks as well. I love the texture and shape of each, and find them very inspiring. Just in case mom is sometimes wondering how I come up with things... Dad is to blame for geometry though.

Housecoat

Housecoat, first try. I have been longing for a comfortable, yet attractive housecoat. This might be weird, but even while staying at home and working in my studio all day, still it matters to me what I wear. It changes every day, depending on my own mood, weather, and just how I might feel that morning.
Of course, I would not wear a housecoat to work, but on a Sunday morning, when it all slows down a bit, why not? This specific one has two cushions sewn in at the back; they hardly add any weight, but definitely comfort. The collar is held down in the back by adding a smooth velvet strap, so nothing stands in the way of Sunday morning comfort, not even a collar rubbing against your neck...
I am still developing the front, but for the most part, it is done.

Ways I Dress

Ways I Dress is almost ready for production. I would like to play with the arm openings and the bottom edge, add more flexibility to it, as well as test some other fabrics I have. The idea is for this dress to be reversible, gray and black in this case, since it makes the back manipulation more appealing, in this photo six ways, and counting... Hope it is liked!

Ways II Dress

I think I just might be getting closer to making a comfortable, every day, multi-way wear dress. Minus some minor technical details, and finishing touches, I would like to add, Ways II is pretty much done, and will soon be available at WearIt. This time though, I am making one for moi as well. First photo shows front to back wear, the second one is the opposite way, both with a belt, and the third one front to back without the belt. I like the dressy way, with the belt the best I thing, however the belt less wear would look great with some tights, high tops, and layered with other soft comfortable clothes you might have laying around, plus one dorky wool hat, the kind your grandma might have wore.

Be Happy Now

I've just bought a wonderful original print, and a very happy card from Jenny of Be Happy Now. Since I am preparing for my final critique, next week, I had to get away from my own work for a while, and purchasing some new beautiful silly art was just a way. I love Jenny's work, it makes me smile, and her little watercolors of villages and tiny cities remind me of home.
Also, Be Happy Now's 2009 calendar is here, as well as my sister Yellena's, so make sure you get them as they will not last!

DA DA F/W 08 Jacket

Just a few more pictures of my DA DA F/W 08 fleece jacket. Recently I've changed the background and have to say white is what I feel most at home with. I like the light, airy feel of it, simple and clear, especially the fabric one that I'm using now, and since the paper can fold and get creases this nylon fabric seamed like a perfect solution, as long as rolled in for storage. Still, I feel a real, live person shots would point my work towards a new direction.

Tom Scott S/S 2009 is here!

Tom Scott Spring/Summer 09 collection is finally here! I love his work, how beautiful, nutty, yet unpretentious it is, not to mention wearable. He strikes a perfect balance between 'I want to wear this' and 'I want to hang this on my wall and look at it.' I'm in love!

New Photos, New Work...

My camera is finally back, and even though I am not where I would have liked to be with my photos, still this is such an improvement from before. You can see what I mean if you look at the old pictures of my DA DA Fall/Winter Jacket, just scroll down.
The second picture is a new reversible dress, and I will be posting more images tomorrow.
Being without a working camera, even though I am still searching for a perfect one, has been so difficult. My hope is I will find that perfect match, and love will never end, and I will be able to take great pictures... Also, I plan to start modeling my own work, and even though I am far from an ideal model, there is a lot to be said about pictures of clothes on a real person.

Stripes

New design at Wearit, somewhat old photos, since I haven't had a functioning camera since the end of September of this year. It is crucial to have one, and these days I am in business of hunting for a new one. Wish me luck!
I must say I had a very bad experience with FUJI Film, a nightmare to be more exact. After my original camera broke down, it's been months of disappointment ever since. First, I have received a wrong model camera to replace my broken one, followed by my original still out of order, and never repaired camera, only to be still waiting for one that would actually work...
On the lighter note, I will be posting a few new winter designs at WearIt as soon as I get a working camera, so stay tuned!

Sketchbook Porcelain

I could not resist! Sketchbook to porcelain, this is my new, one of a kind, series, soon to be available at WearIt, through Etsy. I've always admired the idea of functional art, and even though I would have loved to have my sketches published in a book, something I still think about, having them transferred to porcelain is that much better. Art you can use daily, does not make the sketchbook doodles less art, but it does make art more accessible.
(Unfortunatelly, I am still waiting on Fuji to send me my repaired/replacement camera back!)

Our Next President!

Hope is the word! Even while waiting in line to vote, I've noticed something has changed in the attitudes of people. Something has put everyone waiting there in a good mood. In the rain, on a cool Florida morning, during a four and a half hour wait, no one has complained, and we were all talking to each other, laughing, unlike any other time we waited in line for something... Hope! It feels good!

Happy Birthday Grandma!

One jacket, so many ways...

Same cut, slightly modified pattern, one new jacket, completely reversible, soft, warm, and comfortable, gray fleece and bright red velvet... few less than satisfying pictures, my camera still at the repair shop... The jacket will soon be available to order at WearIt, in many many color combos!

Something new, something old, something blue...

A familiar cut, a whole new jacket! It is fully reversible this time, just like I originally intended it. Hidden ties at collar can be puled through to either side to fully close the jacket. Still light and comfortable as always, and another little something you can play with and play in!

Riding Across Florida

Maybe the best way to see Florida, riding on the back of a motorcycle... Greg and I took a ride from Melbourne to Tampa this past weekend, 160 miles and almost three hours of riding through some of the most beautiful parts of Florida, pass the woods and farm fields, orange groves, and small sleepy southern towns, odd middle of nowhere hotels and bars. There is nothing else like it, being a part of the landscape, feeling and smelling it all, and for a few hours being free...

Bootleg

I love this Etsy store! Bootleg has a true alternative feel and loose look, something you can almost only find if you take a peak at somebody's sketchbook. I love a tee shirt, a wristband, that does not look like something you've got at the mall. That's just a way Etsy spoils you so you can never ever go back to your neighbourhood department store!

Avery Winslow

Everyone knows the feeling of your little heart skipping when you discover just the right pair, in this case a pair of earrings I've got from Avery Winslow on Etsy just the other day (third picture from the top). I love these earrings, and they are my perfect pair already, seemingly raw and industrial, yet so very elegant, and light weight, just perfect for my hair length too. Can't say enough good things, just a big thank you to Catherine Hodge, a very talented designer/artist of Avery Winslow!

Friday Favorites on Mixed Plate

Liana from Mixed Plate was so sweet to feature my DA DA Tie in Pink and Red yesterday. I usually start my morning off by having a light breakfast, watch my news (very important!), check my Etsy store, and go to work. This morning however, I've got lost browsing through Mixed Plate only to discover that almost every single artist I adore has been featured there!
